Forsyth is the former home of Tift College, the second oldest women’s liberal arts college and formerly known as Forsyth Female Collegiate Institute. The college opened in Forsyth in 1849. Tift College merged with Mercer University in 1987, and its former campus now houses the headquarters for the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Visitors and residents celebrate Spring at the annual Forsyth Festival on the second weekend of March. Juliette’s Green Tomato Festival happens every fall remembering the movie, Fried Green Tomatoes, that made Juliette world-famous. The Forsyth Foxhunt is part scavenger hunt, part history lesson, and public art installation. Participants search for adorable fox figurines hidden in shops, businesses, and historic buildings downtown. The hunt takes you on an adventure through Forsyth learning the city’s history as you follow clever clues.
